Moving up to Washington
This is very emotional for me to write. I love and miss Mom. I moved down south when I got full custody of my son. I moved down here to work. My father lived here and he got me a job at the shipyard. I had an attorney to pay off. It wasn't cheap. I paid him off, and have had my son with me ever since. But I've missed my family. My aunt and cousins live up in Oregon. My brother and his family live up in Sammish Washington. And my Mom is up in Vancouver.
I try to visit as often as I can, but it's only once a year or once every few years. I have a family down south now. A wonderful wife, and two children. My heart has always been in the Pacific Northwest. I've always wanted to go home. And now, besides my wife and children, and my wife's family, I don't have any family down here. My father and stepmother have moved to Georgia and I visit them when I can.
After much discussion with my family, we've decided to try to get all of our finances together and move up to the Pacific Northwest. It will be a long move. I've done it once before when I moved down here. Mom isn't getting any younger, and I hate being so far away from her. She's all alone in Vancouver Washington.
Mom has bipolar, and it's a difficult condition, and it doesn't help when she has no family or friends near her. Depression and Manic stages of Bipolar are real, and they are hard. Especially without family there with her, or someone with stability.
The move up there won't be easy. And our family would like to try to knock down some of our debt as well as plan for moving expenses for the journey.
We've researched a U-Haul, and to make this trip it would cost approximately, $1,600 plus gas to rent a U-Haul. We'd need gas for the U-Haul as well as our car.
Or we could go the PODs route, which looks to be anywhere from $1,300 to $2,999. Probably on the higher level. It would take a lot of stress away from driving the U-Haul though.
We would attempt to sell our house, but we haven't owned it that long, so we wouldn't be making much from that. A little travel money.
Our current debt is $28,000.
If you count the timeshare we stupidly got, probably more like double that.
I'm thinking of starting up a GoFundMe account to try and get a few donations for the move. Anything would help.
I'm also considering putting together a Kickstarter for a Fantasy and/or Sci-Fi anthology to give perks for different donation levels. The first being access to my journaling the trip, because after all, I'm an author. I can try and get in contact with a few fantasy and sci-fi author friends of mine to see if they'd write a fantasy or Sci-Fi story for the anthology.
